Earlier today I replied back to an email about the performance of, in this instance, a solo ad. The implication was there was something amiss about the process.
Quickly double and triple checking that all went just as planned – the service completed as ordered – (I never take things at face value especially from my own business perspective, my continued reputation as the good guy is important to me and has been for over 10 years) – I verified that yes, indeed, everything went off like clockwork.
However, since it is also vital that this person receive a reply – never, ever not answer your emails (!) – after re-reading it, I realized that without giving away the person’s identity, the reply itself would make a great, informative post.
So here is information that affiliate marketers – every online participant in terms of making money – can use. In this case, I am talking about the much-pushed “solo ad” and reference you also to the frequently asked ezine advertising questions web page on the primary site, My Wizard Ads.
Here goes:
The effectiveness of any standalone email is directly in proportion to the subject line and volume of mail any single person gets in their inbox. In other words, it better be catchy.
You will notice, and did notice, that at the bottom of every page on the site there is a statement there saying the service will be done but no gu.arantees as to results or effectiveness can be made – if I could I’d be swimming in cash and long since retired
![]()
Your choice of subject line was not at all unique “Internet Millionaire, Ewen Chia Reveals His Secrets!”
Did you copy that directly from a suggested mailing from Ewen? If so you also need to take into account you are not the first person to use it, you are also in competition with your fellow Chia affiliates.
Thinking outside the box is a good trait to develop promoting any affiliate product.
Is it possible that not one person out of 35,000 was interested? The answer is yes. Is that the publisher’s responsibility or fault? The answer is no.
We provide the service, the ability to reach out to people you do not have a list for. Will they be interested? If you read my FAQ, you will see or did see that I clearly state I “have no clue” but that we do our job and you do get the mailings/service(s) you asked for.
I tell you all this just so you are aware that affiliate marketing online is not a walk in the park. You pick a budget, stick to the budget and work within said budget. There are numerous methods and strategies, some you can do for f.r.e.e yourself, but regardless there are very few “secrets” online.
There are many more effective ways, as perhaps Ewen does for himself, that work. But in 10 years, I have never seen a real in the flesh brand new “secret” other than the development of videos – which, for a long time now, have not been a “secret” either.
Think outside the box. Yes I repeat myself, but you cannot depend on the supplied ads given. You have no idea if you are affiliate 1 or affiliate 6,137 to use the same solo and same subject line. Heck, you could have been the 23,412th person to use it.
I, myself, receive Ewen’s mailings. No I did not promote this one, but I’m just giving you the information you need. Many people are on his list getting stuff directly from him.
Affiliate marketing, again, is not a walk in the park.
Of course I signed my name and other factors, but it’s the information in the reply that anyone advertising and marketing anything online need understand. You must do it. Most people have no list at all or too few individuals to contact (or enough people tired of you pushing stuff at them).
I also have no control over the words others choose, and yes too many people make the mistake of using supplied advertising over writing their own. If you joined something, there had to have been a PERSONAL reason you picked one thing over the other. THAT is what you should be telling others. Leave the “canned mail” alone, unless you know for a fact that you are the first person to use it (which you won’t be, the owner has already used a version of it to let you know about it, right).
Think outside the box.
The use of ezine advertising in the form of ezine ads, solo ads, and larger marketing packages has been around a long time. Its use is NOT flash in the pan material. Reading the FAQ referenced above should provide you with vital information that can, and will, make a difference to your success and your wallet.

I know the feeling, just ran a solo ad twice and
as soon as I looked at the ad live I knew.
Blew off the headline and sure emough didn’t do good at all. ( My Fault for being in a hurry and not double checking it. )
The one your talking about should understand the ad head and copy determines the outcome not the publisher or the list.
PS Keep up the Good Work

Greetings Theresa,
As usual you are spot on with your comments.
We live in an age where everything has to be easy, and affiliate marketing is seen as one of those areas.
Affiliate marketing is business, and so all of us in business have to carve out our own niche, with our own Unique Selling Proposition (USP).
That means writing our own marketing pieces.
And that means: Work!
Keep up the constatnt flow of useful information like this.
Regards,

Hi Theresa
I enjoyed your post very much.
I know of many people who just copy and paste other people’s copy because they are just lazy and expect to make money from other people’s work.
With my team I teach them to think outside the box an try to do what others are not.
To make money in this world of internet marketing you have to stand from the rest.
Writing your own copy also gives it a personal touch, yes I know it mean working a little but it will also get you noticed.
Look forward to your next post Theresa.
